Hey there! Place markers are small items the you place on your needle in between sts at set places in the pattern. They help you keep your place in the pattern. Sometimes they are small plastic circles, sometimes they are beaded and very fancy.
So when a pattern says to place marker, it just means to put the marker on your needle and continue on knitting the row as normal. When you get to the marker on the next row, all you do is move from the lef needle to right needle.
When you knit with two strands of yarn, all you do is hold two strands of yarn as if they were one. You could either have both strands coming from the same ball of yarn (the inner strand and the outer) or you could just use two separate balls of yarn and hold each strand as if they were one. You could also unravel one ball of yarn and wrap it back as two separate balls. It’s up to you how you want to do that. I normally just use two separate balls of yarn b/c I think that’s easiest. When you run out of yarn from one ball, all you do is join another ball. Check out this page to find out how to join a new ball of yarn.
Hope that helps!
Markers are just reminders for you to do something in the pattern. The directions will probably tell you to do something up to or after the marker.
ok i dont understand the 2 strans at the same time. if i have the normal stran and then i double it up, i’ll eventually run out of the doubled part. this is confusing…
You don’t fold the one strand you’re working with, you use 2. Just hold them together and knit them like they’re one.
so you have to use two balls of yarn or unroll the whole thing…
You don’t have to unroll the whole thing. Every skein has a strand that comes from the inside and one on the outside. You can use these two strands.
yup, but doing as Ingrid suggests, just be a little aware, as it tends to get a little tangly…
Yep - that’s why I just use two different balls of yarn. I’m to lazy to either re-wind or fiddle with the tangles. :rofling:
