Twisting yarn problem

Is it just me or this a common problem?

I notice all the time when knitting that the working yarn is always getting twisted up. And once that happens I find it impossible to completely untwist it. Like it twists up around itself…I don’t know how else to explain it? lol Does anyone know what I’m talking about and/or know how to prevent this from happening…or does it happen to the best of you?

Some yarns twist more than others. There’s probably no way to prevent it, you just need to stop every once in a while, let your work or the ball/skein dangle and let it untwist.

It has to do with the way the manufacturer winds it up. It can come out of the center pull skeins like that. I tried rolling my own center pull skeins by hand. Sometimes the lady at my LYS does it for me. But when I get to the end of those balls, I have to stop because the yarn gets all tangled. I just roll it up in a plain old ball. It’s ugly but functional. I put my skeins in one of those plastic supermarket bags. I tie the ends shut and run the yarn out of one side. When I’m done for the day, I’ll put my work and the needles inside the bag. It keeps cat hair and dirt off my work and the yarn isn’t rolling on the floor.

I roll my yarn into balls too but still having problems of twisting yarn while doing the seed stitch or doing the purl to knit stitch. Haven’t tried the plastic bag trick yet but would putting the yarn in a framed cloth holder (don’t know what it’s called) help? Please let me know your ideas!
