Twisted yarn

okay I’m sure there’s an answer on here somewhere and I just can’tfind it. But I could use some advice.

When I’m knitting, my yarn gets very twisted and every few rows I have to “unwind” it. I’m not sure how else to explain it. If I dangle whatever I’m working on and let it spin around a few times, all is well. What am I doing wrong??
thanks!!

This happens all the time, you aren’t doing anything wrong. You could try my handy dandy yarn unwinder: a lazy suzan on the floor with a bowl on it to hold the yarn. Just turn the lazy susan with your foot from time to time to keep the yarn untwisted. Here’s the picture again for those who didn’t see it before:

That happens because of the knitting motion and the way some yarns are spun; with some yarns it happens more than with most of them.

thanks for the advice!!
