Turning?

i recently got a pattern that said

CO 18sts

rows 1-4: knit
row 5:k14, turn
row 6:p10, turn etc

i’ve been looking it up for ages and i idont know what it means. or what the instructions are. any help?

If you have a link to the pattern can you share it? Or at least a name of the pattern? It helps if we can see it.

It sounds like you’re turning before the end of the row. :??

it’s in the section: of the body.

Are you using straight needles or double pointed?
I was going to ask a question for everybody. I got a pattern that said to “turn” it while using 2 regular needles, not double pointed.

i am using 4 dps

Trust the pattern and do just as it says. You will be doing what is called short rows. They are called short rows because you only knit or purl part of the row, turning and leaving some of the stitches unworked. So knit 10, turn, turn your work just as if you were at the end of the row, purl back 8, turn again etc. It will work out. Usually what this does is create a curved area.

It doesn’t matter how many needles you use, when a pattern says to turn and you haven’t gone all the way across the sts yet, it’s short rows. You would turn just as if you were at the end of the row and knit back.
