Turning the heel.....question >>>>

Is it better to k 2 sts past the middle on the first heel turn row? The pattern I use (from a video) suggests that, but I’m looking at my book ‘Knitting Circles around Socks’ and it goes 1 past the center stitch.

What difference does it make? And if doesn’t make any, then why aren’t they all written the same way? ’

I always slip the first stitch, knit half the number of heel stitches, knit 2 tog, and knit one. Then turn, slip 1, purl 3, purl 2 tog, purl 1.

This has always worked for me. I am sure there are other methods that work just as well though.

I think my pattern calls for slipping the 1st stitch, then purling [this is on the wrong side] until 3 sts past the middle. Then purl 2 together, purl 1 and turn.

Slip the first stitch, then knit till 3 past the middle again, then knit 2 together, knit 1 and turn.

Hope this helps,
Dot
