Hello not sure if I’m signed in? Knitting help for Rowan Quail studio baby pattern star blanket. Pattern says Turning row(RS Purl)
Starting with a p row work in st st for 8 rows ending with a RS row?
How do you end up with a purl row after 8 rows?
Turning rows and right side
Welcome to the forum!
The pattern is reversible so it’s hard to tell which is the RS.
It may mean to end having completed a knit row. Read the next set of directions and see if it makes sense that the row following would be a purl row.
And once you figure out which is the right side, put a removable marker or two so you’ll be able to tell more easily going forward.
I don’t know if I have a gramerian in me or not, but to me the pattern starts with “(RS Purl)”, then it’s not a “Stockinette Stitch,” but is rather a “Reverse Stockinette Stitch” from the (RS) with purls on the right side (public side) & knits on the wrong side (inside.)

I vote that the directions where not reviewed by an editor for readability.

The only way to make the 8th row a (RS) row and call it Stst is to follow the “Turning row (RS Purl)” with a purl row.
That makes the (RS Purl) row zero. Start on (WS) with purl row 1, 3, 5, & 7 and knit rows 2, 4, 6, & 8. And you end on a (RS) row & Stockinette stitch from RS.
(Long inhale after a “run on” explanation.)
I think you’ve got it @OffJumpsJack
That makes sense and gets my vote.
It’s not written in a particularly easy way.

Yes… thank you… that’s exactly it…I couldn’t get past this ‘turning row?,’ asked at Rowan who said purl the turning row then 8 rows st st starts with knit ends with purl… phew! Why could I not figure this out😘
You couldn’t figure it out because it was not written clearly. Not your fault!
