turn and YO

Hi all!

In my current project I’m at a part where I need to make short rows between 2 markers. The instructions say to knit until 6 stitches before the marker, turn the work and YO on the next row. When I get to the part where I’ve already YO’d, and I combine the YO and next stitch, I’m now at 5 stitches before the marker, and then at 4. I learned the turn and YO from youtube. How can I do this and still retain my “6 before the marker” status?

Best,
Kim

YO short rows won’t change your basic stitch count. You should always be able to stop 6sts before the marker on subsequent rows.
If you want, you can quote a couple of rows of the pattern here. Not a large portion of the pattern please due to copyright.

Oh, I just figured it out and by “figured it out” I mean that I read the rest of the instructions. When I knit all the way around again, ktog the YO + next st when I come to it.

Thank you, salmonmac, for your time.

We’re all happy to help. The best is figuring it out yourself. Enjoy your knitting!

I grabbed some scrap yarn, some needles and started practicing. It never came out right.

1_row (rs): k to 6 sts before M, turn work.
2_row (ws): YO, p to 6 sts before M, turn work.
3_row (rs): YO, k to 6 sts before YO, turn work.
4_row (ws): YO, p to 6 sts before YO, turn work.
Do 3 and 4 two more times.

By the time I got to the 2nd repeat, I ended up having to stitch the YO or have 2 YOs next to each other which resulted in a big hole on each side. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Antler by Anke. It’s an old sweater pattern.

Usually the instructions for short rows have you knit to a different number of sts before the markers for each set of knit and purl short rows. There is a forum for this sweater and here’s a link to the posts on short rows which may or may not help. You can always post a question there.

Is the link to a short rows video in the pattern, page 6 of any help?
Ankestrick’s patterns are very well written and she is undoubtedly responsive to questions, too.

Knitting a different number of sts before the markers for each set makes total sense.

I did use the link to short rows in the pattern.

I did happen to post earlier this week a question regarding this on the pattern page, but this link is different and might be helpful. We’ll see. I’m at the curved bottom. Fingers crossed.

Let us know how this turns out. If there’s not help on Ravelry we can think on something else.

You may have already solved this.
I re-read you post with the 4 pattern rows this morning with fresh eyes. I had been misreading the 3rd and 4th rows. Instead of knit or purl to 6sts before the marker, it’s to knit or purl to 6sts before the last YO. So each turn is 6 additional sts from the markers. The YOs are at 6sts and then 12sts from the markers.
