Tubular cast on on dpns

Is it possible to do the tubular cast-on on dpns? Or, should I stick to the Italian cast on when using dpns? I’m knitting my first beanie.

For either of these cast ons you start with a longer needle, usually a straight needle and then transfer to dpns after one or two rows.
Is this the way you work the cast ons?

Have fun with your first beanie!

Thank you for replying. I’m trying to cast on like in the second video with the American lady. And, I keep losing stitches. Since they both seem to do the same, I think I’ll try the Italian cast on (first video). Or, should I try the alternating cable cast on?

You could do either. I find it difficult to cast onto circular needles or dpns with these tubular cast ons. The sts keep twisting. I cast onto an old long straight needle that’s close to the pattern size but might be slightly larger or smaller. At least it minimizes the twist.

Thank you. I’ll give that a go. And, I’ll practice with 30 stitches instead of jumping right into it with 120 stitches and getting disheartened.
