Tubular=Alternate Cable

I am having so much trouble with keeping track of my knits and purls and keeping the bottom edge rounded with Tubular Cast on. I do not see a video for tubular cast on her on knitting help but I have seen on youtube this cast on:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WQIm1H2hDM&feature=related

It looks similar to an alternate cable cast on. Now I am wondering, are Alternate Cable Cast ons and Tubular Cast on the same thing?

If it isn’t should I really get comfortable with this cast on method by cottoncloud: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKfR-8fuGzw

I saw this at KnitPicks and I think I can do this too, but my pattern calls for the purls to be first and should I improvise this for p1, k1?

Alternate cast on or alternate cable cast on gives a ribbed pattern beginning at the cast on edge with no line for the cast on. I think any of the directions you’ve linked to will work but the cottoncloud seems particularly easy to adapt to start with a p1 for the rib.
Tubular cast on actually creates a tube or hem at the edge. It’s shown on this video or in this article.
Which one you use depends on the pattern and your preference. Pick one of the demos that seems clear to you and follow it.

I don’t know if you’ve seen these links, but I have them bookmarked.
