Tubey Sweater

Okay I want to make the Tubey sweater. What I was wondering is do I have to use circular needles for the first part cant I use strait needles? I love my plain jane needles. Also I want to make mine a 3/4 length sleeve but I have no idea how to alter a pattern can I just knit and see how it looks after a while and a bit after the elbow make a rib type cuff?

I will probably have alot of questions about this one I looked at the KAL but after about 30 pages I gave up. I learned quite a bit but mostly about sizing and yarn.

Any tips would be much loved by me thank you! :flirt: =

The pattern starts out flat, so you can knit on straights no problem there. When you join into the round for the sleeves is when you need to switch to circs…I suppose that you could knit that part straight and seam it, but man, by the time I got to that part I was DYING to knit in the round I was so freakin’ bored!!

Is it just that you haven’t knit in the round before and you are hesitant to make the leap? It’s such a great skill! I encourage you to watch the videos and try it if you haven’t already…

Also, I knit my sleeves on US16 circs, no problem. No need for DPNs.

Another thing: the pattern runs HUGE. You might think, “wait, I’m not a small!” but go with your gut – it really does run BIG. My big Tubey regret is not listening to the little voice that kept telling me to knit a smaller size.

As far as the resizing goes…I altered the sleeves and here’s what I did: I knit the back of the shrug, and knit the first sleeve to about the elbow and put it on waste yarn. Then I knit the other sleeve to the elbow, and had my friend try the whole shrug on, so we could measure and decide how much longer to make them. Worked out great – you can do it too!

Thank you so very much. I am fine with knitting in the round but for the flat part I like to use my straits. I normally wear a Med. My gut was to go with the S even before I saw the post so that is what I am going to do. Now I just have to get my gauge right grrrrrr swatching is the worst part for me!!!

Thanks again for all the help Julie. I am sure I will need more.

ok need help already. On the pattern it says

20 sts/24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

is that 4 sts per inch or 4 in?

That would actually average out to 5 sts per inch (5 sts/inch x 4 inches = 20 sts), although usually it is suggested you knit your gauge swatch slightly wider than the 4 inches and measure in the middle portion.

Thanks that would mean I need to use size 6 needles. But I am still getting 6sts per inch do i go down another size? Gosh going to take a nap and cry lol.

You go UP a needle size to get fewer stitches per inch. Go DOWN a needle size to get more stitches per inch.

The pattern calls for a size 8 needle, what were you getting per inch with that?

Gosh I dont remember with size 7 and 6 i get the same I am going to swatch another 7 I think that was the best. I will get back to you when I get this. Oh and thanks for the help I didnt know weather to go up or down.

wish me luck. and chocolate

Ok when I do size 7 i get like 5 1/2 but if i go back to size 8 it will be to loose i already think this looks to loose I dont want to bend and people be able to see my skin. What to do what to do. Could I just go with the size 6 or 7 so the stitches look good and do the XS pattern? :grrr: + :pout: = ME!

I think you’d have to go up a size when your stitch gauge gives you more sts/inch than the pattern.
