Trying to Understand part of Knit Pattern?

Good Afternoon from North Vancouver,BC

I just casted on some stitches to Knit a
Pattern by Ostrom which I received via
the Friday KnitBits Newsletter for Berocco.

Like all of us, when I saw this lovely Knit
Cowl I rushed out to purchase yarn and
last night casted on the 134 stitches.

Row 1 - As soon I began after casting
on the stitches I was confused as to what
they were telling us to do…

Row 1 - *K1, slip 1 purlwise WYIF; put yarn
to back over the needle (in other words, slip 1
and YO at the same time), repeat from * around.

Row 2 - *K1, purl the slipped stitch and the YO
together as one, repeat from *around.

Repeat these 2 rounds for Rib Pattern

I have knitted for many many years and this
just threw me off the rails so to speak.

If anyone can enlighten me what I am to do
here would be most appreciated.

This is also called a brioche st and you may find some tutorials on this website.

This may make it easier for you -

R 1 - K 1, slip 1, yo, and repeat that around.
R2 - *K1, purl sl st and YO tog, repeat from *around.

You do a knit st, then slip 1 and yo, k, slip 1, yo, etc. On the next round, knit 1, then knit the sl st and yo tog, like a k2tog, and repeat.

I want to use that stitch in the round. Is the 2nd round just P1, K sl st and YO tog ?

Just work the sts as written. The last stitch will get used.

Yep, or really F rib is a variation of brioche stitch.

And I misunderstood your question, sorry. To work it in the round yes, I think you’d do it as you suggested - P1, K sl st and YO tog
