Trying to do my first chevron pattern

I am trying to do my first chevron pattern but am a bit confused.
here is the pattern: row 1: k, row 2 p, row 3 *K1,k1 but leave on LHN, K into st below and transfer both sts to RHN, k 4, SK2P, K4, K into st below next st, K 1 into st on LHN and transfer both sts to rhn, rep from * to end.

My problem is you knit the first stitch then do you knit into the stitch right below the one you just knit? thanks for the help.

K2 leaving the 2nd st on the L needle, Knit into the st below it, then move them both to the right needle. This sounds like a complicated way, so unless it’s part of the chevron, you can do the KRL and KLL that are shown on the increases page. They’re similar.
