I finished a vest consisting of panels of various texture stitches. I had to make some size adjustments to the length of the garment before I knit the finishing band to conclude the project. The band is knit by picking up stitches along the front right side, around the back of the neck and down the left side, and is knit in garter st. Because of the length adjustment, I couldn’t pick up the number of stitches recommended by the pattern. I just picked up and knit stitch-for-stitch. I have much too long a band as a result. I’m just wondering if there is some kind of rule as to how many stitches to pick up when you’re adding a horizontally knitted band to the vertical stitches of the body of the garment.
The ratio is usually to pick up 3sts for every 4sts along a stockinette edge and 2sts for every 3sts in a garter edge.
That’s good to know – thanks!!
Thanks so much, that’s just what I needed to know!
