Previously in this pattern I have increased and decreased on a P row. I will be knitting a border that goes around the back (collar) and the sides and bottom edges. In this event, will it make a difference if I do a RS or WS increase?
I’d keep your incs/decs consistent. Whatever gives you the best results. Most incs/decs have ‘opposites’ so when worked in pairs, or on RS vs WS, you have the same lean/slant and appearance.
I assume you’re working your incs/decs 1-2 sts in from the sel so those won’t affect your pick up for the knitted border. If not, picking up for the border might be made a bit more difficult due to how inc/dec sts sometimes lay.
I’d like to invest in a good Knitting reference book…any suggestions (clear pictures are KEY)?
My suggestion is go to a bookstore or lib and look thru the various ref books. (Avoid buying based solely on a recommendation unless you have money to burn.) There are several good ones but all are a bit different. What appeals to one might not be right for someone else. And the info contained within varies. Pick one that ‘speaks’ to you and provides the info you’re looking for. Pics are nice but only if the corresponding instructions make sense. (Not all images are self-explanatory.) Some have few, if any, pics but make for a great resource of ‘how to’ and answering common questions (like Radcliffe’s ‘Knitting Answer Book’).
