Trouble finding space for more yarn?

I’m all too sure some of you have run into this problem at one time or another, but what do you do when there is more yarn in your stash than space to store it?

I recently bought 10 balls of yarn during that crazy flash sale on Craftsy.com and now I’m facing this very dilemma. Oh the humanity of it all. :nails:

Why am I such a sucker for a good yarn sale?

I’m not sure how/where you store your stash, but there is a great thread over on Ravelry showing different storage options that people use; everything from trash bags, to storage bins, repurposed shelves and antique cabinets.

I have the same problem. There are no closets in our tiny house, every door has at least one over the door rack (some doors have them on both sides) no space under the beds… I have yarn in a huge reusable grocery bag by my side of the bed (I have to step over it to get out of bed, or scoot to the bottom of the bed) in drawers, and in bags in the laundry room. I’m considering getting a shoe organizer, like the ones that hang on the door, and having DH attach it to the bedroom wall.

RochesterKnitter, I store my yarn in a sterilite drawer system, but I am finding it’s fast running out of room. :frowning:

Knit faster!! :teehee: I have mine on shelves from Ikea. It’s kind of a disaster right now though. :zombie:

Do you have some tips for that, too??? ROFL

Or how about for creating time?

I would also like to know if you have any tips for faster knitting and more importantly, creating time to knit. :teehee:

I can only knit so fast or my hands will begin chapping from fiction. I’d also be worried about yarn bursting into flames too. :roflhard:

:roflhard: I wanna be like Hermione and have a time turner! I’m not a fast knitter. Plus I do other things like play on my iPad, play with the dog and read, too.

I did set myself a goal of using my stash yarn and making charity hats. I got a lot of hats made!

Who needs furniture beside a knitting chair? Just get rid of everything else. :teehee:

@Jan, do you have Herminone’s phone number?

I wish!!

Right now I have all my yarn in a tall basket i found at Target. That’s all my extra yarn that is. And they are piled to the top of the basket!
The 24 skeins I currently have on hand for my blanket are still in their shipping boxes and the 8 skeins for the project after that are in a plastic bag next to them.

I think this is becoming a problem…:teehee:

I keep most of my stash in the basement in plastic storage bins, sorted according to colors. The yarn for my WIPs are in my living room stuffed between the couch and the wall. (my loveseat is diagonally across 1 corner of the room) That unused corner is GREAT for storing other yarns & FO’s!!!

Ha. I actually moved a shelving unit I had in a little restaurant I owned (for 4 months) into my spare room (craft room?). Those metal units you see in stores. It costs about $100 I think, can’t remember, but it’s very cool because you can arrange all the colors in groups and look at them when you walk in plus store baskets and things. It fills one wall and is pretty to look at. If you’re going to keep buying yarn you might want to consider one. Restaurant supply houses carry them. Or buy a chest and keep it all in there.
