Triss Baby Blanket

Just a quick one. On this pattern, it asks on Row 19, to change to Yarn B (is a purl row), then from Row 20 you are then starting a version of repeat stitches in a new colour.

My question is, surely you change colour on a predominantly knit row? That way stitches are more seamless, ie. not such a visible seam?

For stockinette stitch, changing color on a purl or WS row isn’t going to matter. The colors will appear on adjoining rows.
For garter stitch where every row is knit changing color on a WS row will put the dots of both colors on the RS row. You may want to avoid that (and the pattern does appear to) by changing on a RS row.

Hello,

You’re right to think about when to change colors for a smoother transition. Changing colors on a predominantly knit row can indeed make the seam less noticeable, cat noises as the knit stitches on the front side of the fabric can help hide the color change.

In your pattern, it sounds like the designer is asking you to switch colors on a purl row (Row 19) to achieve a specific texture or design effect. Purl rows can be more visible than knit rows, especially if you’re working with a color change. The seam might be a bit more noticeable, but it could also be part of the design, especially if it’s intended to create a specific look or texture.

Best Regards
