Trey bracelet pattern rewrite

ok. rewrote the trey bracelet ( http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/trey ) pattern so it makes some sense and doesn’t leave things out. but i need a spot checker or two.

i’m inferring that rows 1, 3 and 5 are the wrong side, and rows 2, 4 and 6 are the right side, because even tho it’s never explicitly stated as such, in the grid picture she has an icon for a long set of slipped stitches and in the key it says WS, ergo row 3 is the wrong side, so the other odds must be wrong sides too, and the evens must be right sides? also, why it starts with a wrong side, i don’t know…

now, she uses the same icons for 2 different meanings. on a right side, a “|” means one thing, but on a wrong side, it means the opposite. same with “-”. on one side it means purl, on the other side it means knit. why not just use the same icon to mean the same thing, i do not know, but hooray for designer’s prerogative.

so after deciphering the indiana jones hieroglyphics i think i have this…

cast on 13
row 1 (ws): slip to purl, k2, p7, k2, p, turn work
row 2 (rs): slip to purl, knit to end, turn work
row 3 (ws): slip to purl, k2, p, slip 5 to purl, p, k2, p, turn work
row 4 (rs): slip to purl, k5, k grabbing below, k6, turn work
repeat rows 3 & 4 another 23 times, for 24 repeats total
row 5 (ws): slip to purl, k2, p7, k2, p, turn work
row 6 (rs): slip to purl, knit to end, turn work
bind off

am i even in the ballpark, let alone the same city?

The chart makes it easier to see the pattern sts planned out. In order to do that the convention is to use the same symbol on front and back for the appearance of the stitch rather than the operation that gives that appearance. Hence the “knit on the RS, purl on the WS” convention for charts.
Since some stitch patterns require a foundation row, you’ll sometimes run into a pattern that starts on a WS row…
By convention too, start the chart in the lower right corner for row 1 and read R to L’ rpw 2 is read L to R. I know the video below calls these RS and WS but it’s more correct to say row 1 and 2 especially in your case.

Take heart. It’s like learning a new language. The cuff pattern looks like a fun knit, too.

thanks. but oh. my. god… bottom to top, right to left, completely backwards. only so many times i can keep banging my head on the desk with this hobby.
