Translating a Pattern Instructions

Hello:

I’m new to the forum and to knitting. I found a pattern I would like to do but I don’t seem to understand the instructions. I hope someone can take some time and help me out.

These are the instructions:

Panel (make 8). Cast on 100 sts. Knit 3 rows (gart st). (I understand this part).

1st Row: (RS): K1. S|1. K1. psso. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. k1.

2nd Row: Purl. Cont in stocking st. dec 1 st at each end of needle on 3rd and every following 4th row to 20 sts. Knit 3 rows. Cast off knitwise (WS).

Thank you for the help.

On row 1 you’re doing a decrease at the beginning and end of the row. Look on the Decreases page for sl 1, k1, psso and k2tog. Then row 2 is just a purl row. Decrease again on the next row, alternate knit and purl rows with decreases every 4th rows (rows 7, 11, 15, etc) until you have 20 sts left.

Thank you. I think I need to practice the decrease. I never did that before.

If you have some leftover yarn, CO about 15 sts and use that as a practice piece. Knit a couple rows, then do a row with decs just like in the pattern - k1, skp, knit to the last 3 sts and k2tog, k1.

What is skp?

That’s sl 1, k1, psso, just shorter to write, sorry.

Thanks. I’ll give this a try and see where I end up.
