“transfer these sts to waste yarn.

I am rushing to make dog sweaters as gifts and one of the steps has got me stuck. The pattern states, “transfer these sts to waste yarn. Rejoin your yarn to the sts that have been waiting on your needle.”

If you can imagine a dog sweater, the stitches on the waste yarn are the belly section between the 2 armholes. I am working the sweater from the bum towards the head.

What is the proper way to do this? Do i need to flip my work? Which needle is my working needle since the yarn is not attached to either? Should i cut the yarn?

Thanks!

What is the name of the pattern you’re following?
Transfer the sts to waste yarn and cut the yarn strand, leaving about a 6" tail to weave in later.
The next sts to knit are the sts “that have been waiting on your needle”. That needle is the left hand needle and the other needle is the right hand or working needle.
