Totally Taboo? Flat to round to flat again?

This may be a really silly question, but I was just curious if anyone here had ever started a project in flat knitting, then switched to knitting in the round then back to flat again?

I am currently working on a scarf with a pattern at either end, but I am lazy and don’t really want to sew up 5ft of seams. I was thinking since I am done with the patterned section, I could move over to circular needles, join my ends and continue to knit in the round until I was ready to work on the pattern at the other end. Any tips or guidance for doing this? Or just jump in? Any reason I SHOULDN’T attempt this?

First, there is no taboo in knitting–if it works, do it.

And secondly, that is the best way, in my opinion, to make a scarf with a motif at both ends. I’ve done it, and it works just fine.:thumbsup:

Thanks for the replies! I figured someone else had to have tried it.:cheering: I think I will give it a go. Seaming 5 feet of dark colored yarn is nothing to take lightly.

That’s pretty much how the “Andre” scarf from Knitty is done.
