We got a letter today stating there was money owed to us from some settlement 2 years ago with our old cable co. and they wanted $20 to help us claim it.
5 minutes online and I figured out how to it bypassing them and keeping all the dough for us! - saving about $20.
You can search by state and name at NAUPAās site (Nat. Assoc. of Unclaimed Prop.).
I donāt know if it varies by State, but we only have to show SSN, proof of former address (luckily I had scanned a copy of hubbyās driverās lic. with that address on it), and new address.
If youāre an heir to someone whoās owed $$$ you probably have to show death cert. and/or probated will paperwork. If you donāt have the latter, the courts will have kept a copy. Might take a little legwork, but itās worth a couple of hundred bucks eh?!?
Hmm, this works! Iām due < $100 in TX, but donāt have proof of my old address anymore (waaaay back in college years). Iām going to call tomorrow and see what to do
Well, itās showing my name in FL & KS. Didnāt live in either. Bummer! Here I was hoping Iād have some extra yarn money! :teehee:
ETAāwhoaā¦went to another site, something tells me this isnāt my money:
Unclaimed source: Property Source ID: IL - UN53XXXXX
Name on file: (My last name)
Status: Unclaimed
Source Origin: Illinois Registry APPROX. VALUE: $67245
:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: Yeah, I donāt have unclaimed property because Iāve never owned property. Let alone $67,000 worth!
We got the paperwork the other day. We have to make some copies, put down a paper trail and they will send us the check. Right now weāre in the middle of settling my husbandās momās estate so it might be awhile before we get all of it together to send in. Oh yeah, the amount was $106, it was an overpayment for an insurance policy. Not a great amount, but instead of just leaving it we figure weāll do the work and claim it.
$11.95 for me - a refund not received I guess. Who knew? And I found my grandfather (died in 1986) listed 4 times, so I emailed my cousin who might know how to collect for him.
Wow. I have less than $100 owed me, but a LOT is owed to my deceased mother. Iāll have to get in contact with my little brother, as everything of hers is split 50-50 between the two of us.
Hey, a few more years of college would be nice. :cheering:
Oooh, just ran into a problem: I canāt prove she ever lived at the place. Sucks, Iāll have to call my Dad and ask if he kept any proof of her addresses from after they divorced.
Did she get Social Security or any kind of govt. checks? They MIGHT have info on addresses mailed to.
OR doctorsā offices, lawyers, etc.? Think of any dealings she had at that time. Maybe even an old letter postmarked with date, etc? I donāt know if thatās something they would accept, but you gotta try! Good luck!
