Totally OT: But You Can Find Money Owed to You On Web Site

We got a letter today stating there was money owed to us from some settlement 2 years ago with our old cable co. and they wanted $20 to help us claim it.

5 minutes online and I figured out how to it bypassing them and keeping all the dough for us! - saving about $20.

You can search by state and name at NAUPA’s site (Nat. Assoc. of Unclaimed Prop.).

Woohoo! :cheering: More yarn money!

This is crazy. I just found money that was owed to me from 4 years ago. Gotta get that $$$$$.

:woohoo:…can you say “LYS”?!? ;)…or are you going to spend it more wisely?

FYI…an easier search can be done at www.missingmoney.com

Also, don’t forget to search for parents’ and grandparents’ name. If you are the legal heir, you have a right to their missing money too.

Good luck!
:happydance:

Well alright then! I just found a life insurance policy on my husband’s grandmother! :woohoo:

oh weird. a total of under $100 is owed to me, under 2 previous last names. I wonder how hard it’s gonna be to claim that.

:cheering: I’m so happy for all of you!

I don’t know if it varies by State, but we only have to show SSN, proof of former address (luckily I had scanned a copy of hubby’s driver’s lic. with that address on it), and new address.

If you’re an heir to someone who’s owed $$$ you probably have to show death cert. and/or probated will paperwork. If you don’t have the latter, the courts will have kept a copy. Might take a little legwork, but it’s worth a couple of hundred bucks eh?!?

Good luck!

Hmm, this works! I’m due < $100 in TX, but don’t have proof of my old address anymore (waaaay back in college years). I’m going to call tomorrow and see what to do

Well, it’s showing my name in FL & KS. Didn’t live in either. Bummer! Here I was hoping I’d have some extra yarn money! :teehee:

ETA—whoa…went to another site, something tells me this isn’t my money:

Unclaimed source: Property Source ID: IL - UN53XXXXX
Name on file: (My last name)
Status: Unclaimed
Source Origin: Illinois Registry APPROX. VALUE: $67245

:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: Yeah, I don’t have unclaimed property because I’ve never owned property. Let alone $67,000 worth!

So how goes the money hunt?
Just bumping, for other KH members who haven’t seen this yet

Damn, no money for me. :verysad: I could really use it too…

for bills, not yarn! :teehee:

I haven’t gotten mine yet, first we need to locate our Social Security cards!
:wall:

We got the paperwork the other day. We have to make some copies, put down a paper trail and they will send us the check. Right now we’re in the middle of settling my husband’s mom’s estate so it might be awhile before we get all of it together to send in. Oh yeah, the amount was $106, it was an overpayment for an insurance policy. Not a great amount, but instead of just leaving it we figure we’ll do the work and claim it.

sigh. no money for me. :frowning:

$11.95 for me - a refund not received I guess. Who knew? And I found my grandfather (died in 1986) listed 4 times, so I emailed my cousin who might know how to collect for him.

Wow - thanks for that bonus!

Is there something like this for Canada?

Wow. I have less than $100 owed me, but a LOT is owed to my deceased mother. I’ll have to get in contact with my little brother, as everything of hers is split 50-50 between the two of us.

Hey, a few more years of college would be nice. :cheering:

Oooh, just ran into a problem: I can’t prove she ever lived at the place. Sucks, I’ll have to call my Dad and ask if he kept any proof of her addresses from after they divorced.

That should be a fun phone conversation. :wall:

Did she get Social Security or any kind of govt. checks? They MIGHT have info on addresses mailed to.

OR doctors’ offices, lawyers, etc.? Think of any dealings she had at that time. Maybe even an old letter postmarked with date, etc? I don’t know if that’s something they would accept, but you gotta try! Good luck!
