So excited I stumbled across this forum! I am interested in knitting slippers and socks for my cousin who has lymphedema in her feet. I finally knitted my first stretchy toe up slipper booties using the GSR technique and using a chunky yarn. Several tries before I figured out how to keep the the short row stitch gaps to a minimum but want to try other short row techniques. I found that the chunky yarn(6) and larger circular needles(us13 …2 pairs) worked better….but would love to hear from you regarding toe up patterns using chunky yarn.
Toe up slipper booties in chunky yarn
Welcome to the forum!
I haven’t made these is a long time but they were nice and warm.
Here’s another pair.
I’m using shadow wraps instead of German short rows on a current project and I like them a bit better.
Shadow wraps….thinking I will search for a tutorial. Than you!
I watched several videos on shadow wrap technique. I love it on the heel. But can you use this technique on the toe if you are knitting toe down socks?
Toe up socks? Usually there are increases at the toe rather than short rows. Do you have a pattern with short rows at the toe?

It is worked toe up and uses German Short Row technique on toe and on the heel.
You can purchase it on Ravelry.
Very comfy slippers! It seems to me that you can use shadow wraps wherever short rows are called for.
Here’s a very handy video for substituting short rows.
