To knit and to purl

Help!!!My pattern directions say to cast on 30 (no problem) Next row knit 6, purl 6, knit 6, purl 6, knit 6 (no problem) the row after that say to purl 6, knit 6, purl 6, knit 6, purl 6. (Big problem) how do I “pick up” a knit stich from a purl position? There just seems to be too many loops.

There should be the same number of “loops” or stitches on the needles. :??

It sounds like ribbing based on what you’ve written. Each stitch as two sides…one side is a knit, the other is a purl. So when you turn your work around the stitches that were knit before now look like purls. to rib you knit the knit stitches and purl the purls “as they face you” which means when the work is turned around and in your left hand and ready to knit again. Here’s a sample of what each stitch looks like.

Does this help?

I think that does help. If not, I’ll be back
