To Felt or not to Felt

Do you find patterns that tell you to felt or is that something you definitely want to avoid?:??

You want to avoid felting unless the pattern specifically tells you to felt the item.

When you felt wool, the item shrinks dramatically. Have you ever accidentally machine washed a wool sweater? It shrinks to a toddler size! So if a finished item is INTENDED to be felted, the knitted item will be very oversized before felting.
