"to end" question

I’m working on a pattern and the instructions are confusing me.

Row 12: sl 1, p to end.

Does this mean I slip one and then only purl the rest of the way? Or do I repeat “sl 1, p” over and over till the end? On the other row’s instruction, it says k 1. If the p doesn’t have a 1 after it, do I continue to purl?

Also…

Row 1: sl 1, k 1, k2tog, k2tog, k to last 6 sts, ssk, ssk, k2.

On Row 1, do you repeat the pattern over and over until the last six? Or do you only do the pattern once and then knit over and over until the last six?

The commas have really confused me. Help needed – desperately!

Thank you
:muah:

It means to keep repeating sts to the end of the row or round. In this pattern it would be slip the first st, purl the rest of them.

I think that do the decs, then knit the middle sts until the last 6 sts. This row will decrease a lot of stitches but maybe another row has the increases. What are you making? If you have a link to the pattern, or the name of it, we could help you out with reading it a little better.

Here is the bag I’m making. http://spinspinspin.wordpress.com/2009/07/17/a-published-designer/
Its in a PDF file, located near the bottom of the entry

The pattern I’m asking about is for the straps of the bag.

The instructions “Row 12: sl 1, p to end” mean to slip the first stitch and purl all the rest of the sts to the end of the row.
“Row 1: sl 1, k 1, k2tog, k2tog, k to last 6 sts, ssk, ssk, k2” means slip 1, k1, k2tog, k2tog, knit all the rest of the sts until you get to the last 6sts, ssk, ssk, k2.

Okay, you would want to decrease the sts, so for row 1, slip the first st, work 2 decs, then knit across and work 2 more decs, knit the last 2 sts.

Thanks so much everyone!!!
