Tight yoke

I am knitting my first bottom up knitted in the round pullover sweater. I have finished the body up to the armholes and both sleeves. I have knit both sleeves now to the body BUT every time I approach the armhole of each sleeve, the knitting gets so tight that I have to use a double pointed needle to finish and then transfer the stitches back onto the circular needle. I just finished the first complete row after attaching both sleeves. What am I doing wrong?

Congrats on your first sweater of this type. The sweater looks lovely and the good news is that you aren’t doing anything wrong. This area is always a bit tight for the first couple of rounds. Using a dpn to get around the body/sleeve join is a good idea.
The tightness should ease up in the next couple of rounds.

Another question: the instructions read: dec rnd: k8,*k11,k2tog,k11, rep from * around - 238 sts remain (for my size)

I started with 248 sts after knitting 4 rounds even as instructed and when I completed 10 decreases as indicated above, I was in the middle of the round, not at the end where my stitch marker was stationed. the instructions next read to join the cc and work the yoke chart after which I should have 102 sts remaining.

Does this mean I should start the yoke pattern in the middle of the round instead of knitting until I reach my stitch marker? aaaaarrrrg.

(And, you were right: the tight areas eased up)

Your help,as always, is truly appreciated!

Claudia

It should take you a full round to complete the decrease round quoted. You may have left out one of the k11 sets of sts? Begin the round with k8, then k11, k2tog. From there on you effectively k22, k2tog around ending with k11.
248-8=240. The repeat is 24sts (11+2+11) 10 times.
