I just finished sweater for my son. I cast off the collar with larger needle and almost no tension (barely enough to keep it on the needle) and it turned out lovely. If it’s just the cast off row maybe you could go back and try that? My neck rib was in 3.25mm needles and my cast off row with 4mm needles. Looks so neat.
If it is lower down on the neck that you need to enlarge it though I would think you’d need to undo back to the beginning of that section. Was the ‘neck hole’ big enough before you started the collar section?

Hi, thank you for your advice, I seem to always end up with a tighter neckline. Your advice to knit with bigger needles at that stage with a loose bind off is a good idea. I wasn’t using the stated yarn, but my tension was ok.
