Thumb hole--help!

I’ve been working on a pair of fingerless gloves on and off since the beginning of the summer. I got to the thumb hole, and have to cast on new stitches over one stitch. What stitch do I use? Does anyone have step-by-step instructions on how to do it?

The pattern says:
Work 1 round, then begin thumb gusset (round 2): inc 1 in 1st st, k1,
inc 1 in next st, place marker on needle. K to end of round.
K 2 rounds even.
Increase in 1st & last st between thumb markers every 3rd row
until there are 17 st between markers. Slip the 17 thumb st to
a strand of yarn or small holder.
In next round, cast on 4 st over thumb opening; 50 st altogether.

the last part is what I’m having problems with.

If anyone has any advice, you can email me lovestocook322@yahoo.com

here’s a link to the pattern if you’re interested: http://dianesknitting.bravehost.com/knit/patterns/fingerless.txt[/quote]

You can use any cast on–I’d probably use backwards loop. There are videos on different cast ons in the above.
