“Knit these 7 [7, 8] stitches onto a piece of contrasting scrap yarn. Slide those 7 [7, 8] stitches back onto the left hand needle, and knit into them again using color A. Continue knitting the mitten as charted.”
I don’t have any idea what this means. Would someone walk me through it?
When you get to these sts, take some scrap yarn and knit them with that. Then slip the same sts back to the L needle and knit them again with your regular yarn and continue knitting the hand. The scrap yarn acts as a stitch holder for your thumb sts. When you get the hand done, you take out the scrap yarn, put the sts on needles and knit the thumb.
Yeah, the top part of the hole will have the other sts. BTW you’ll probably only have 7 of them, but you can pick up extra sts at the sides of the hole, like you’d do a m1. That helps close up any gaps too and if you have a couple too many you can decrease them on the first round of the thumb.
