I’ve just finished my first hat and instead of casting off, my directions say:
Thread the end of the yarn through rem sts, pull up tight, and fasten securely.
Does this mean that I take my work off my needles and using a needle, thread the yarn through my stitches? I know it’s going to be so obvious when I figure it out, but right now I’m stumped! Help!
You would use your sewing needle like a stitch holder and then pull the yarn through like a draw string. Make sure you knot it and weave the end through.
I’ve found stitches don’t unravel that easily if they come off the needle. Only if you pull on the piece. Leaving them on the needle just makes it easier to thread the yarn through.
Thanks so much! But I have one more stupid question. Where do I tie the knot, at the end of the yarn before I start threading, or after I thread it through my work?
They mean after you’ve gotten the yarn through all the stitches, taken them off the knitting needle, and pulled it up tight. Now you’re going to knot it, on the inside so no one can see it, so that it can’t come loose. What I do is knot it with/around one side of a stitch so that it’s very secure.
What I do is run the yarn through the stitches one more time and just cut with a small tail and weave in the end. Two times through and it won’t pull out.
