'Those mitts': basic knit/purl question

Hi all,

I am very new to knitting. I am currently working on a fingerless glove pattern called Those Mitts. http://scoutj.com/files/thosemitts.pdf It begins with 13 k2p2 rows that become the ribbed band. This came out just fine.

The problem began with the body of the glove: instructions say to knit for 32 rows. I started knitting and realized the outside of the glove would be purled and the interior would be knitted. Instructions don’t mention turning them inside-out at the end. I think I can purl 32 rows and get the stockinette on the exterior, but I am wondering if I did something wrong? Any thoughts, advice is welcome. I’m kind of embarrassed at how basic this probably is.

Thank you, kateileen

Nah, we all do that when we learn to knit in the round. You’re knitting inside out. You should be knitting on the outside of the circle. The needles will be close to you and the loop of knitting away from you. See these pictures -

There is also a video here in KH at the tabs above.

You may be able to turn it inside out, but it would be a good idea to learn the correct way or the pattern may seem more confusing than it needs to be.

That can be common when first beginning to knit in the round. It’s how you hold the needles, just flip the mitt inside out and knit it with the tips closest to you.

Thanks so much for the link and advice!
