Thorpe (ravelry) pattern question

Hi,

Working the Thorpe pattern from Ravelry. I am at the Earflaps section. Pattern reads:

“continue in garter stitch, slipping first stitch and working back and forth on the 13 stitches that remain on the needle for a total of 11 garter ridges…”

My question is do you slp the first stitch for each row of the garter stitch, or is the slip stitch only for the first row?

I am hoping someone here is familiar with the pattern and can help.

Thanks!!!

I suspect that is slip the 1st stitch of EACH row for 11 ridges.

That was my thought too… I just am unsure.

Thank you for your response.

Yes, it means to slip the first stitch on each row.

Is this the pattern you’re talking about? I did the medium size and after finishing it thought it was a bit big. In hindsight, I should have gone with the small size. And I have an average head. The top down directions have you knit for a certain length and then start the garter stitch band around the face. I thought this distance was too much and ended up shortening it by an inch. I didn’t like the look of the contrast band around it and left it off. Overall, though, I thought it was a good pattern and I would use it again. The directions for the band in the back don’t make sense when you’re doing it, but it comes down low in the back of the neck. It’s great for keeping your neck warm when the wind is blowing.

This is the pattern I used. I just finished one for my daughter (7), and will make one for my son (6). I made my daughter’s in a size medium using Loops & Threads Charisma in Chocolate Cupcake. Fits her perfectly! I would go up to size large and use a bulkier yarn for me (or any adult).

If you check the pattern link I gave you, this is an adult size. You won’t have to do any pattern converting.
