In that video I was working on a drawstring black and red purse. I think I managed to finish it that day too! :teehee:
This Is How I Knit
I knit the same way as the Yarn Harlot in this video. I think it is called Irish cottage knitting.
Sue, that video just goes to an interview. I’ve seen the one you are referring to, but I couldn’t find it.
You can try threading the yarn through your fingers if you knit english style. Will have to try to get some videos of that, as well as my knitting style, and how I do the half Magic loop variation.
i knit the Continental style (despite actually being English). I think i have a fairly conventional method, although i do use my index finger to sort of flick the yarn around the needle.
here is a video, sorry it is a little wobbly and there is no sound. I had to use a webcam actually sat on my shoulder!
That is from the trial version of software that I used to compress it.
You buying it won’t help (unless you’re buying it for me ).
I have Windows 98 and the software that came for my camera only works on XP and up.
$30 seems steep to me since that was the first time I’ve had any use for it and YouTube changed the contrast edits I did.
If I don’t compress the video instead of 6mb that one would be 71mb.
Me too…I have always wanted to wrap, but it just doesn`t feel right…so be my picking up the yarn every stitch…
I don`t think it is deficient or anything, I have just always figured that that is the way I knit, and likely will always knit…
Since my knitting looks like knitting I don’t really worry about how I do it. It is interesting and fun though to see all the variations on the simple knitted stitch.
thanks for that Mike, at least I know it is not something I did.
Jan: She is knitting while she is talking. I chose that one because she is knitting at my speed.
I am a dead ringer for Amy’s Continental Knitting Video. It’s how I learned to knit
It’s almost the same as tarrentella’s video except she wraps the yarn around the right side and Amy goes around the left side. I don’t know if that makes a difference, but there it is.
That’s how I first knit up until about a week ago. I held the yarn between my thumb and index finger and had very good, if not too tight, tension. But I was slow. So there was a recent post here about speed and that day I sat with some yarn and needles and just experimented for the longest time with holding the yarn different ways. Most ways was very awkward but when I found a way that was only a little awkward I decided to keep that up and after awhile the awkwardness of it went away. The yarn is draped over my index finger near the tip but it’s not really wrapped around any other fingers, it’s still sort of clutched in my palm. The tension is still good, but I’m making a concerted effort to loosen up. It’s still not super fast, but definitely faster than when I was just clutching it with my thumb and index finger.
I would really love to knit like that, here is a video that really shows it good.
I tried knitting like that, and It was a bit faster. I never really saw anyone that I know knit likt that.
Sophie, I see one of your fingers go over the needles and then two go over the needles and I can’t see what you are doing. Everyone is so fast. I am not familiar with the yarn harlot. Is she blind? She never looks at her work.
That kind of interesting - I knit continental, but I don’t knit like tarrentella. I didn’t think it could be all that different. hmmm…
I have to say, Demonica, your son is doing EXACTLY what my kids would do if I were to do such a thing … kind of like waiting to shout until I’m on the phone:roll: I sound just like that when I’m pleading with them to stop:teehee: . So glad I’m not the only one…
And do you have a shot of the finished project???
Here is the video of the Yarn Harlot doing Irish Cottage Knitting.
Wow, Sue! That’s cool!
hahaha…Ahh yes, the phone thing…:teehee: I just about don’t call anyone anymore during the day because it’s IMPOSSIBLE to hold a conversation! lol
And I do have a couple pics of the finished purse! They’re not the greatest pics, but, they get the idea across…lol
I’ve never seen a video of the way I knit. Well, I knit continental, but I purl a continental/combination sort of way. I purl through the back loop, and scoop the yarn the wrong way. No wrapping or pushing needed. It seats the stitches backwards, but when I’m in the round doing ribbing, I never have to turn them back around. And if I’m knitting flat, I can just knit them through the back to straighten them. It’s very fast and requires the absolute minimum of motion and strain.
I’ll have to make a video someday.
Ok I have only recently heard of the Harlot and I’ve never seen her, until today. Wow she knits fast and without even looking. Maybe someday i will be able to do that. (only been knitting 3 months). BTW I knit English style and haven’t mastered wrapping the yarn around my fingers. when I try, I get all tense and my fingers cramp and ache. This is what happened the 1st time i tried to learn to knit a few years ago and gave up, because I wasn’t finding it relaxing.
Cute bag. I can’t wait to start a project like that.
