when you are knitting with this type of yarn, after you make a swatch and the rows aren’t straight, when you measure it do you count the stitches all in the same row or whatever ends up going in the straightest line?
when you block it, do you try to make them go in straight lines?
mine is also puckering right now, will it stay that way after I wash it?
is it better just to use this in a scarf anyway?
You can knit a larger gauge swatch (maybe 4"x4") and measure guage in several different places. You can then average those together to get a single guage.
You can certianly try to block it straight - it will help if you knit with the same tension all the way through but it won’t make it perfect.
I’ve noticed that thick & thin yarn does pucker…I’ve only felted with it though, which took care of the puckering.
If you are making a scarf the guage shouldn’t matter all that much but if you average the guague you should be okay for something fitted.

I made a capelet out of thick and thin yarn (berroco foliage) and blocking helped a LOT. I will admit to not doing a gauge swatch for it, as it was the top down raglan one where gauge wasn’t critical…
