So the grand-daughter was making fun of me in Hobby lobby Wednesday. We had popped in there to get some jewelery wire we needed. I had to go to the yarn section, duh!
She started reminding me of the projects yet to be completed and how foolish it was to buy more yarn. I’m fairly good at ignoring logic. I picked up the cotton in the yummy colors that only appear around here in the summer and we headed toward the front.
She’s still fussing at me, then we pass the aisle of last hope for yarn. This is where they put their discontinued skeins. I headed down the aisle to see if they had anything I’d want. As I perused the offerings I heard her suck in her breath.
Now being a yarn addict myself I understood that sound. I turned to see her fingering a lusciously soft lace weight yarn in a simple pink variegation. There were two skeins of the variegation and one of a matching plain pink.
I just picked them up and added them to my bunch. She followed me to the check out in a yarn euphoric haze.
It was in the car where she asked me; “But Grandma what will I make out of it?”
My reply was well there is certainly enough to make a very nice receiving blanket if her new cousin turns out to be a girl.
“But Grandma what if it is a boy?”
We will just put it away with the 8 skeins you have waiting to be a afghan.
Her voiced tinged with a bit of fear she asked; “Does this mean I have a stash?”
Yup.
They do say that the first step toward curing a problem is recognizing you have it.
Or you could just do what I did. teach someone else to crochet or knit and then take them Yarn shopping. Bwaaaahaaahaaahaaahaaa! :angelgrin: Beth
LOL, sounds like it’s time to teach her to do the wave stitch–I just made both a simple rectangular shawl and a scarf with the stitch. (The shawl was made of that cheap white baby yarn with a thread of floss wound in to give it sparkle—my MIL immediately coveted it!)
It sounds like you have a future yarn addict on your hands! It’s so nice to hear someone talking about the next generation in a positive manner rather than the negative way they are usually discussed. Your grandaughter sounds like she’s a budding knitter and very sweet.
I am so incredibly jealous of your granddaughter. Growing up my grandma was my best friend and her place was special above all others, but she was not a knitter. I always wanted to learn and if she had been a knitter she would have been the perfect person to teach me since I thought she was perfect in every way. Instead I had to wait until I was 36 years old and another teacher at my school started a knitting group. Better late than never I guess. Your granddaughter is a very lucky young lady.
That is so cute. its lovley to hear good things about kids now a days isnt it. its all what have they done now and must come from a broken home (my son does come from that i guess you could say).

i have a budding knitter as well, he’s 5 and started to learn how to knit his grandad a scarf. he’s done about 4" and is soo proud of it, as am i. he has plans to make mummy a jumper as well, lucky mummy
