The little yarn that couldn't!

anxious to get working on my hourglass sweater, but hit a serious
snag :frowning: .

I bought Debbie Bliss (just beautiful) cotton/wool , but the gauge is not going to work-uhg! Itā€™s recommended gauge is 24=4" and the sweater is 19=4". When I get the gauge right the fabric is just too open. I thought it would work, but I was having doubts so I asked dhā€“he felt it would probally be a little to open as well.

so, I guess Iā€™ll have to part with my Debbie Bliss (I can at least pet the bag every once and a while) and sell to ebay. Then I guess Iā€™ll start the process over. Better to learn this little lesson now (recommended gauge can be important). Iā€™d rather not knit up the whole sweater only to be disappointed.

the same thing happened to me with Tubey. Can you use the ā€œwrongā€ gauge and just make a different size? Thatā€™s what Iā€™m doing.

Did you try doubling the yarn? Youā€™d have to buy more though, if that worked.

:inlove: You guys are the best!
I thought about using a different gauge (knitting on a 4) but decided against it for two reasonsā€“thatā€™s one small needle to use for my 1st sweater and secondly Iā€™m too chicken <O> (me flapping my chicken wings).

I had thought of doubling the yarn, but decided against that as wellā€“because I would need 10 more balls!

So, Iā€™m a little sad about shipping my debbie bliss :crying:. The lovely skeins are already a part of my family! but, Iā€™m sure the new yarn will warm my hear equally

I figure Iā€™ll call herrscherners tomorrow to see if I can send it back, I looked at the return policy, I think I can return.

In the mean time, Iā€™ve gotta find something to knit!!

thanks!

There ARE lots of patterns out there that are knit with dk yarn. You could keep it, you know.

Iā€™m sorry, Iā€™ve just never heard of anyone returning yarn before. :rofling: This is obviously why my stash is so huge!

Donā€™t let me influence you too much. Iā€™m just an enabler.

What? Whatā€™s that you say? ā€œReturnā€ yarn?
Uhā€¦thereā€™s been a communication breakdown, as I donā€™t understand that phrase.
Are you typing in English??? :roflhard: :roflhard:

Return yarn?

Exchange, perhapsā€¦but not return!

Blasphemer!

I think my eyes were playing tricks on me!
Did you say retuā€¦ returā€¦ retā€¦ (too hurtful to say)!
Why? Do you live in a bachelorā€™s apartment? Are your closets that full? Is there no space under the bed?
Sorry, I canā€™t comprend not keeping good yarn for another project and just buying more. I save up for it if I have to or ask my LYS to hold some of the same dye lot for me and buy a ball at a time until I have enough for my project.
Huhā€¦ maybe I do have an addiction.
:roflhard: :roflhard:

Trust me when I say I have stashes everywhere, ( a little bag of-which doesnā€™t qualify as a stash!)of fabric, jewelry making supplies art supplies and a collection of antique buttons.

Since, my son (who is 32 mo.) I went from a large studio, plus my classroom for overflow to Ummmmā€¦a closet! For 40lbs. he sure takes up a lot of space!!

Now, I have one bedroom with a small closet :frowning: for all my stuff. And Iā€™m little weird when it comes to yarn, if Iā€™m not using it --it drives me crazyā€¦surely with time I will get over this weird affliction :rofling:. Iā€™m totally distraught about all the oddballs of yarn I have hanging around. Iā€™m not at peace unless I have the perfect pattern, and only the yarn Iā€™m working withā€“Iā€™m a zen knitter! & Actually, I think I have issues!! :roflhard:

But, with some yarn therapy, and some great enablers like you guys, this too will pass!!

Sorry it didnā€™t work out. :frowning: Did you wash your swatch? When I did that with the Cathay it actually changed the gauge a bit. But then you couldnā€™t return it, of course. Hope you can find another yarn you love!
