I’ve seen a few books for guys who knit but I’ve never bought one. Most of them were far too gimicky and really didn’t have stuff that I would have liked to knit or wear. This book was different. The garments in it are suitable for a wide range of ages and knitting skills. The main attraction is the garments themselves and not the fact that men knit. There also many types of garments there. Some nice hats, gloves, socks, a few very unique and appealing sweaters. So I thought I would give you a heads up while the Knitpicks book sale is going on.

I’ve been looking for a book that has patterns for stuff I can make for my DH.

Men are harder to knit for trust me. I’ve got my DH, FIL, Brother and dad to knit for plus my SIL’s hubby.

Last yer for christmas I did a pair of fingerless gloves fora good friend and those where a BIG hit with him. I did a pair for hubby as well and those got some good use.

I was wondering about that one. I couldn’t remember if that was one I saw reviews for that said the patterns were nothing anyone would wear.

I got “Sweater Design In Plain English” just because of the designs for men are often so bad they need a lot of adjusting.

Thanks for the suggestion. I like to knit stuff for my brother (because he appreciates them). He really likes hats, but I’d like to make him a sweater. He even likes to pick out the yarn. My husband very rarely enjoys a trip to the yarn store.

I’ll have to check it out. I’m always on the lookout for sweaters my DH would actually wear. I think part of the problem with most sweater designs for handknitting for men is that the designers like to do fancy things with them. I can understand that, because if you’re going to hand-knit a sweater, you want it to look special. But honestly, most men I know just wouldn’t wear sweaters with lots of color changes, cables, and interesting design elements.

I’m perpetually searching for the perfect men’s sweater design book – the one that exists in my mind, the one that would contain designs for lots of sweaters that my husband would actually wear. It would be called, “Sweaters That Look Like They Came from The Gap.”
