The dreaded "no stitch"

Hello!

I’m doing a pattern which has the no stitch boxes in the charts. I tried ignoring it and going on to the next box, but now I’m at the end of the row, and I have all these extra stitches from previous rows. How do I avoid this?

Basically, I have 144 stitches in the first row, and then there are 12 “no stitch” boxes in row 2. If I ignore those boxes, I’m left with 12 unworked stitches at the end of row 2.

I hope that explains my issue. There are no instructions. Just the chart. Thanks, in advance, for your help!

Do you have a link to the pattern or chart?

With out the pattern or chart I would assume there are 12 decrease, ie K2tog on the first row. Therefore the second row would have 132 stitches.

That’s exactly what you do - ignore the box and work the next box on the next stitch. But maybe you didn’t do the repeat the right way, or used a knit st when making a YO. A yo is just a wrap around the needle, not wrap and knit 1.

A link to the pattern, or the chart would help. It may be there’s actually 12 incs in that first row, not 12 decs or they may be in later rows. The no st box is just to help square up the chart.

I’d guess you made a mistake in the previous row–maybe misread a k2tog or ssk mark.

If there are ‘no stitch’ boxes there are usually decreases in the previous row.
