The back is on the front and I'm just totally confused

Ok, so I’ve been knitting a baby blanket (which is my first real project) for about 3 weeks now, and have started it over about 3 times now :pout: . My problem is that I will look at what I have done of the blanket, and there will be a few rows that are backwards (what is supposed to be on the back is on the front). Does this mean I’m some how turning it around when going on to the next row and knitting the back on the front? And this may be a dumb question, but when I’m looking at on the needles, is the side facing me supposed to be the front or back :?? ? I’m just wondering this so I can make sure I’m holding it right when I go on to the next row. Thanks all!!

It might help you if you put a safety pin or something like that on the front of the blanket so that you know when you’re doing a right side row. Also, make sure you finish a row before putting it down - if you stop mid row then come back later it is easy to pick it up and start knitting in the wrong direction. Some stitch patterns are difficult to tell what’s the front and what’s the back - garter stitch, for example, looks the same front and back. Keep close track of your rows and somehow make note of which side is the right side, and it should help.

And as for whether it’s the front or back that’s facing you when you hold the needles, that all depends whether you’re working a right side or a wrong side row. If you are starting a right side row, the front of the blanket will be facing you on your needles and if you are starting a wrong side row, the back of your blanket will be facing you.
