That mysterious extra stitch, this time on circulars

Hello, it is the first time this has happened to me while knitting on circulars. It has happened to me once or twice on straight needles before and I know how to fix that.
Not sure how to do it with circulars?

My stitches on the left needle is in the right order to start knitting again.

Thank you

Have you counted your sts and you have an extra? It looks like your working yarn is coming off the second stitch on the right needle. If the problem is the first stitch on the right needle, just slip it back to the left needle and knit or purl it.
You’re knitting on the inside of the circle of knitting. Is that the way you usually knit?

Agree with Salmonmac.

What it looks like happened is:

  1. You inserted your right needle as if to purl
  2. Looped the working yard, but MISSED!
  3. You pulled the stitch off the left needle onto the right, which was your second mistake, but probably due to the first.

Fix is a lot easier than the problem. Simply slip the stitch from the right needle back onto the left.

The only problem you might have is that the stitch is twisted. Just remember that the bottom of the front part of the loop (the side facing you if you hold your work up with your project hanging down) leads to the right.

Thank you, luckily an easy fix.
I have counted the sts again and it’s not an extra st. I wasn’t sure what to call that st, just thought ‘extra st’ would be it…maybe ‘mystery st’ would be a better description?!

Yes, it’s the first st on the right needle that is the problem. It is a purl st.

Yes, that’s the way I usually knit, don’t know how it happened though  I just realized it one day, and kept on doing it like that. Will have a look at how to do it the right way, think it will make things easier in the long run.

Hi, thank you so much. Yes! Now it makes sense  That st is a purl st, and the way you describe most definitely what happened. Not a good idea at all to knit late at night when you are really tired…

I’m so happy it’s an easy fix and nothing complicated. I will definitely have a good look at that st to make sure it’s not twisted, thank you for this tip :+1:

Knitting inside out is easy to change. Just flip to turn right side out as you would a shirt sleeve. Knitting on the inside is fine too but there are some patterns where it’s easier the other way.
