Teddy bear - pattern help needed

I am working on the arm for a little bear in stockinette stitch. This is the first I have worked with a true pattern, and somehow I am not getting it right. After I finish my “work 9 rows straight”, I end on a knit row, meaning the next row should be a purl row but the pattern says “next row K10, turn”. Maybe I am not getting the "2nd row and foll 4th row right? I really don’t know.

I also can’t figure out or envision what “rejoin yarn to rem sts and complete as first side” means.

Can you please help?! Thanks a million!

… K 1 row across both sets of sts. 16 sts. Inc one st at each end of 2nd row and foll 4th row. 20 sts.
work 9 rows straight.
Next row K10, turn.
Sec one st at each end of next 2 rows. 6 sts. Work 1 row. Cast off. Rejoin yarn to rem sts and complete as first side.

Your first row in those directions is row 1, a knit row.

Working 9 more rows would be p,k,p,k,p,k,p,k,p, so your next row should be a knit.

It looks like you’re working the first 10 stitches until bind off and then will use your yarn to work the other 10 stitches.

Thanks for the help!
But I am still a little confused.

Maybe I am doing the first part wrong…
“K 1 row across both sets of sts. 16 sts. Inc one st at each end of 2nd row and foll 4th row.”

Isn’t this k,p,k,p?

And then the 9 rows straight would be k,p,k,p,k,p,k,p,k? But I need to be ending on a purl row to do the “k10 sts and turn”.

Thanks again!

“K 1 row across both sets of sts. 16 sts. Inc one st at each end of 2nd row and foll 4th row.”

I missed the increase rows in my explanation. Let’s see.

Considering the confusion later, I think they mean to knit the first row, then increase in the second row after that, then on the 4th.

row 1 - knit
row 2 - p
row 3 - k with increase
row 4 - purl
row 5 - knit
row 6 - purl
row 7 - knit with increase

p k p k p k p k p - 9 more rows.

That’s it! I was doing a total of 4 rows for the increasing section rather than 7 rows as you describe. Thanks a million!
