How do I do a left leaning decrease on a knit stitch and purl stitch next to one another and on a purl stitch and knit stitch next to one another?
Hello
Choosing which leaning decrease to use is about which stitch you want on top on the right side of the work.
For a left leaning dec where the first stitch on the left needle is a knit, followed by a purl, you can ignore that the second stitch is a purl and work SSK (slip slip knit 2 together through the back loop) because the first stitch is the knit stitch which you want to lean left and to lay on top of the decreased stitch, whilst the second stitch gets hidden behind as it is decreased.
A left leaning purl decrease would be a P2tog on the right side. Again the stitches may present as P, K, that’s OK, the purl remains on top and leans left whilst the knit disappears under as it is decreased.
However, you may be asking about the purl decrease on the wrong side of the fabric, a SSP which really leans right, but is used on the wrong side to lean left and to match the SSK on the right side.
If you’re still not sure, ask again, maybe a little more detail would help as knits and purls can be decreased on the right side or the wrong side of the fabric.
Do you have a pattern you are following?
