Tearing my hair out trying to knit lace, help?

I can’t put too much of the pattern here because I paid for it, but the section that is giving me trouble is this:

Row 3: k3, yo, k3, yo, k-b, k2tog, yo, k-b, k3, k-b, yo, ssk, k-b, yo, sl 1-k2tog-psso, k, yo, k, yo, k3, yo, k-b, k2tog, yo, k-b, k3, k-b, yo, ssk, k-b, yo, sl1-k2tog-psso, k, yo, k3
Row 4: k3, purl across to last 3 st, k3
Row 5: k3, yo, k2, k-b, k, k-b, k2tog, yo, k-b, k2tog, yo, k-b, yo, ssk, k-b, yo, ssk, k-b, k, k-b, k2, yo, k, yo, k2, k-b, k, k-b, k2tog, yo, k-b, k2tog, yo, k-b, yo, ssk, k-b, yo, ssk, k-b, k, k-b, k2, yo, k3

The abbreviation k-b is for knit through the back of the loop.
Every time I do this, row 3 and 4 seem to come out fine, but I don’t have enough stitches to carry out the instructions on row 5.

The only thing I can think of is the part that reads sl1-k2tog-psso. I always thought if you psso, you pass it over the stitch you just knit and then drop it off the needle (as you would in binding off). Should I just be passing it over but leaving it on the needle?

You will slip one from the left needle to the right needle, then knit the next 2 on the left needle together. Then take the slipped stitch and pass it over the k2tog. Hope this helps… This will give you a decrease of 2 sts.

But after I pass it over, do I drop it off the needle? Like when you are binding off, you pass one stitch over the next and then drop it off. I assumed that’s what I was supposed to do, but could I be wrong?

Yes, it is dropped off and what is left on is your stitch created by knitting 2 together.

Yeah, unless you’ve typed wrong or I’ve counted wrong, there seems to be a problem.

Row 3 creates 47 stitches. Row 5 requires 49 stitches.

Since it’s a paid, copyright pattern, maybe check the publisher’s website for an errata?

Thanks! I contacted the designer and she told me she’d look it over. She found the error and sent me a new copy of the pattern!

Isn’t it awesome to find out you’re not crazy? All the wasted effort sucks though!
