Taught 6 year old to knit

My friend has a 6yo little girl who sees me once a week at the hockey rink. I am always knitting there and last week she asked me to show her. So the next week I brought something she could work on.

I showed her two knit stiches and then handed it to her. To my amazement she knit like she was born with the skill. I couldn’t believe it. She was able to copy my exact movements with no problem. She finished the row (25 stiches) and was very proud of herself.

Next week I am going to bring her needles and yarn for her to keep and work on.

I have taught 11 and 12 year olds and only one picked it up so fast.

:woot:
That’s awsome… I’m currently trying to teach 15 middle school girls to knit. It’s kinda hard because I’m only one person and I only meet with them once a month (part of a school enrichment activity)
I was lucky to have an extra pair of hands when I met with them the first time last week. Next month, I’m on my own. They seemed to get the cast on and knit stitch - next month, purl and I’m going to have them make their own needles out of dowel rods and schulpy.

Happy knitting

That’s awesome! I taught my 8 y/o sister (just turned nine tho) a few months ago. I was pretty impressed… I’d tried before, but I realized it was MY fault she wasn’t picking it up, as she’s a leftie and I’m a rightie. LOL After I learned to knit backwards she picked up super fast.

Great! I hope with her natural aptitude she will stay interested. Imagine where she could be by high school.
