Switching Yarns

I was wondering if someone could tell me what to look for when switching yarns for a pattern. Thanks in advance.

To substitute, you need to find something the same weight (fingering, dk, worsted) and possibly a similar fiber content. Do you have a pattern in mind?

Yes, I would like to try a sweater pattern.

If you post a link, pic and/or more specific info it’d be easier to give more advice on what your options might be.

The yarn the pattern calls for is Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick. Gauge: 9sts and 13.5 rows=4 in. with size 13 needles. Wool Ease is super bulky. It has the feell, softness of wool with the easy care of acrylic. 80% acrylic, 20& wool. I hope this information helps. Thanks!

You can sub another super bulky yarn with similar gauge information on the label. You could also use 2 strands of worsted weight and that should work out too.

Thank you.

If you choose, your sub could be a different fiber content. There are some VERY soft acrylics and other acrylic blends, microfibers, cottons, etc. This goes to suzeeq’s point…you could work double worsted so if you find something in a lesser weight don’t automatically discount it. It will depend on getting gauge, and whatever your budget dictates.
