Switching yarn

Hi there,

Here is a d-uh question! I’d like to knit a pattern that calls for Rowan Calmer yarn. I’m not in a position to afford to buy that yarn at this point in my life (boo hoo) but I’m unsure how to substitue.

Calmer is 21 st on a 5mm. They say it knits a DK tension but because its elastic, larger needles are used … so when looking to sub; would I try out the Aran yarns first, or the DKs?

Might depend on what you are planning to make with it. Is it an item that should be stretchy? If not, you can use about any yarn that will match that gauge.
