Sweater sleeves

First time knitting a sweater. It’s a “top down” cardigan sweater. Got the body done and now time to knit the sleeves. I don’t understand the directions…help…

It says: Slip all stitches on the spare yarn (They are on a stitch holder) onto circular needle.
ok…I did that.

Now it says:
Starting at center of the cast on stitches, at the underarm, pick up and knit 6 stitches; pick up 1 extra stitch to close the gap; knit around the sleeve;…etc.

I have no clue what it all means…can someone help.
-I don’t know where the center of the cast on stitches is.
-I don’t know what they mean by "pick up and knit 6 stitches
-I don’t know what they mean by “pick up 1 extra stitch”

It says more, but maybe if I’m able to learn what this all means, I can do the rest of it? Am I giving enough info to you?

It would mean the cast on stitches at the underam of the body. Begin in the center of them and pick up 6 sts knitwise, plus an extra at the body/sleeve join to avoid a gap. There’s a video on picking up sts on the Tips page.

suzeeq,
I thank you whole-heartedly & respectively
