Sweater Size Question

I’m about to take the plunge and order some DB Super Chunky Cashmerino from Little Knits for a sweater pattern I got from Interweave:

However, I am always confused about how to know what size to knit when all they give in the directions is a finished size (sorry, my ignorance is showing  )

I’m a medium (8/10) and the finished sizes in the pattern are 40", 42.5", 45", 48" and 50.5"

I’m assuming that the last number is an XL and downward to an XS which would leave me at the 45" finished size for an M.

Sound right? Is there a formula somewhere for this?

Thanks ever so much :muah:

If you measure a sweater you already have and that you like how it fits, that should give you an idea of what size to use.

Also, there is a standardized system. Try this link:

This is an oversized sweater…do you want it to fit that way? Measure your chest and see how much extra room you’d have with a 45 in bust sweater. You might want to go down a size.
