Sweater pattern question

Hi,

I am working on my first “sweater pattern” and have a question.

The pattern reads: Bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Work even 56 sts until piece measures 12" from beg.

My question is: Does this mean to bind off 6 sts then work in pattern until the next row, then bind off 6 sts then work in pattern to the end of that row? I believe that’s how it reads but in my mind it doesn’t seem right.

The original count I am starting with is 68 sts on my needle.

That’s it! Bind off 6 stitches, knit in pattern to the end of the row, then turn the work, bind off 6 stitches at the beginning of the next row, knit in pattern to the end, turn and keep on knitting in pattern until it’s 12" from your cast on edge, You’re narrowing it just slightly on each side for the arm holes.

And the math works out because 68 - (6 + 6) = 56
