Sweater Pattern Help

This is my first attempt to knit a sweater and I’m trying to make a split neck raglan. I’ve gotten everything knit right except the front which is giving me fits. Towards the neck, it says to “Sl 1, K1, psso, K7 (I’m good with all that), turn and put rem sts on a holder - 8 sts. P1 row. Dec 1 st each end of every K row until 2 sts rem. Next Row: P2. Next Row: K2tog - 1 st. Fasten off. With right side facing, bind off center 12 sts, K to last 2 sts; K2tog - 8 sts.”

I tried it but it came out looking not at all like the front of a sweater. If anyone could help me decipher this I’d be very appreciative.

Fasten off. With right side facing, bind off center 12 sts, K to last 2 sts; K2tog - 8 sts."

At this point, you should work those 8 stitches the way you worked the other side–decreasing until you have the 2 stitches left.

Thank you, I’ll give this a try.

All right, before I go and make the same mistake again, when the pattern says to “turn and put rem sts on a holder - 8 sts” does that mean I will be working with 8 sts, or 8 sts are to be put on the holder?

For one shoulder you’re working on the 8 stitches not on the holder. When that side is done, you put the other ones back on the needle and work with those.

Again, thank you so much for your help. Having someone give a little more insight on the pattern can make a world of difference. My sweater is nearly done now, just finishing up the neck and sewing up the sides. I’ll post a picture if you like.
